How to install Xentry XDOS/XPT in a VMware with activation

First thanks to gcs190, pesona!!

This guide is written by myself and not copied from elsewhere! The API and Keygen and "Remove Login Window" is not my work, this was done by other people. Thanks to all who have worked on this.

This guide explains how to install Xentry 2022 03 or 06 XDOS/XPT into a VMware virtual machine with Win10 x64 amd get it activated and running.

I don't know how it behaves for previous versions of Xentry, but in versions starting for 2022, there are some important steps to care about,
how to configure the VM and that "VMware Tools" should NOT be installed, and can't be installed with this config!

What is the difference compared between hardware (notebook) and virtual machine?
The problem is, that Xentry will detect that OS is running on a virtual machine, if you run Xentry Config to look for your hardware ID, you will notice that the APP ID is showed as 253!
When you generate the activation code with the keygen for hardware-id + app-id (253) you will get the key and you can activate your installation, but you will note be able to start Xentry,
you will get the error "no access authorisation". And this actually can not be avoided!
So you have to configure the VM, that it can't be detected by the OS/Xentry as a VM...

What do we need?
- VMware Workstation (I used version 16)
- Win 10 x64 ISO (I used 21H2)
- Xentry XDOS/XPT 2022 setup files
- Xentry Advanced Keygen 1.1 (no other is required) (see at pesona's thread)
- ConnectorAPI (see at pesona's thread)
- Xentry Missing Pictures 2021.txt (see at pesona's thread)
- USB Drive to transfer files from host to the VM (more comfortable than over network)

Howto
1. Create a new VM with template Windows 10 x64 or later, use min. 4GB RAM, 2/4 CPU cores and 120GB Disk, or more if you like to
2. Install WIndows 10 with the ISO
3. After Windows Installation, do NOT install VMware Tools! Deactivate now the "user account control"
4. Copy from your USB drive the needed setup files for Xentry, Keygen, Fix etc. to your VM
5. Shutdown the VM and create a Snapshot for safety (if you do any mistake, you can go back to the previous state) you can delete later the snapshot
6. Modify the .VMX file located in the VM folder of your host machine with a Editor and
add the following lines and save the file:
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE"
isolation.tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_chksimd = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_ntreloc = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_selfmod = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_reloc = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_btinout = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_btmemspace = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_btpriv = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_btseg = "TRUE"
tools.upgrade.policy = "manual"
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
monitor_control.virtual_rdtsc = "FALSE"
the most important lines are:
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "TRUE"
7. Start the VM and start Installation of Xentry XDOS/XPT with admin privileges, after Setup finished, reboot as required
8. After reboot, Xentry Config Assist will start automatic, go through the wizard and check your Hardware-ID, you will notice as APP-ID 252 (that is what we want)
9. Copy your Hardware-ID to the Keygen (from pesona's thread) and choose APP-ID 252, choose a start/end date, Lic Number 1 and generate your Key. Save it in a text file on your desktop.
10. Apply the ConnectorAPI Fix (from pesona's thread), start Install.bat with admin privileges and reboot the VM
11. Now after the reboot start Xentry Config Assist and activate your Xentry installation with the Key from your Text file on your desktop. Xentry is now activated.
12. Start Xentry, it should run without "no access authorisation" and without 2221-45 Error
13. Now a Xentry Login Window will appear, to remove it, shut down Xentry and edit the following files:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz\Xentry\XD_DT\bin\PassThruServices.xml"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz\Xentry\XD_DT\bin\XentryServices.xml"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz\Xentry\XD_MB\bin\PassThruServices.xml"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercedes-Benz\Xentry\XD_MB\bin\XentryServices.xml"
In each file, remove the complete line with "<service name="LoginService" ....>
save it, and the Login Window is removed.

14. Extract the "Xentry Missing Pictures 2021" file to Xentry installation path
15. Install other stuff you need, for example openport 2 drivers etc. and then you can delete you snapshot if you like.
16. Copy from another Windows VM the VMware Tools DRIVERS, to do this, mount on the other VM the VMware tools disc.
On the C: drive create a new folder for example "VMware drivers"
Now open a command window and change directory to the disc drive for examle d: (if it is your disc drive)
enter command:
setup64.exe /a
This runs a Installation Wizard, to extract the content of the setup, but it is not installing the drivers ONLY extracting. Choose the folder on C: drive you have created, to extract the files.
You are done. Copy the VMware Drivers folder to your USB drive to transfer the files to your Xentry VM.
17. On your Win10 Xentry VM, paste the VMware Drivers folder from your USB drive to drive C:
Then you will have the drivers located in:
C:\VMware drivers\VMware\VMware Tools\VMware\Drivers
now you can install each driver if you like, by "right" clicking the *.inf file "install" for example the most important VMware graphic driver:
C:\VMware drivers\VMware\VMware Tools\VMware\Drivers\video_wddm\vista\vm3d.inf
right click on the inf file and choose "install"

* You can go furhter and install the other drivers if you like. These drivers will NOT affect your Xentry activation!
